*Is it safe?
Yes, just about as safe as Ball State's campus.
First, students participate in all activities in
groups of both men and women. While on the
streets, all groups will have both sexes and
will stay together. While giving van
rides, all vans have men posted as the
doorkeeper and in the back of the van keeping
watch over the entire van. Furthermore,
the van lights stay on while transporting
college students at night.
The pancake breakfast is just a block away from the condominium and
we only go there during daylight. The
evening worship and message are in rooms
connected to the condominium. The
condominium that we stay at does not rent rooms
to Spring Break college students, which makes
both our condo and the beach outside our condo a
safer.
*Can
you really witness to drunk college students?
While it is true that many
students go to Panama City Beach to drink, only
a small number of the students that we encounter
are too drunk to carry on a normal conversation.
It is actually neat how alcohol helps many
students to open up and express their
appreciation for our services during the week.
Most students are willing to hear why we are
there and some of those conversations turn into
real opportunities to share salvation through
Jesus. Of course we'd never take advantage
of someone's inebriation to try to "convert
them," but it is neat how many genuine
conversations we have.
*What is the point of the van rides?
Panama City Beach is a
very spread out area. The hotels and
businesses that college students visit while on
Spring Break are situated on a strip that
expands several miles. We provide a free
ride for students who are trying to get from
point A to point B. We can also
accommodate large groups of students at a time.
Ultimately, though, the point of the van rides
is to show love to the college students in a
real way and share Christ during the ride.
*What are the benefits of Beach Reach?
Beach Reach gives some
students the chance to share their faith for the
first time. We will train in evangelism
and sharing our testimony before Beach Reach and
while at Beach Reach. Beach Reach also
gives students awesome worship opportunities
with hundreds of other college students.
Many students come away from Beach Reach wanting
to witness to their friends and on fire in their
relationship with God.
